Backup quarterback Austin Appleby called out North Texas after a “dirty” hit on starting quarterback Luke Del Rio.Luke Del Rio was sidelined with a knee injury he sustained during the Gators game against North Texas on Saturday. Florida’s backup, Austin Appleby, replaced Del Rio for the remainder of the game and completed 2-of-4 passing attempts for 30 yards.Appleby addressed the media after the Gators 32-0 win. Florida head coach Jim McElwain was visibly upset after the hit and was seen charging midfield to have a word with the officials and the North Texas sideline.Appleby is a former starting quarterback for the Purdue Boilermakers. The former transfer threw for 2,777 yards and 19 touchdowns in 16 games during a three-year run with the Boilermakers.The Gators face off against the Tennessee Volunteers in a matchup of ranked 3-0 teams vying for supremacy in the SEC East.
