Congress wants a ‘grand temple’ to be built in Ayodhya: Sachin Pilot

first_imgThe Congress wants a “grand temple” to be built in Ayodhya, Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot said on Friday, days after the Supreme Court cleared the way for the construction of the shrine in the Hindu holy town. He also said the court’s decision was acceptable to all and people should now stop doing politics on the issue. In its verdict announced on November 9, the Supreme Court backed the construction of a Ram temple by a trust at the disputed site in Ayodhya, and ruled that an alternative five-acre plot be allotted for building a mosque in the town. “Everyone has welcomed the decision and the Congress Party wants a grand temple be built there [Ayodhya],” Mr. Pilot told reporters in Dausa district. “We have to happily respect and maintain that decision. Now, we have to stop doing politics on this issue; the world is moving forward,” he said. People who had been doing politics over the case for the past 30 years understand now that no one will benefit politically by raising the issue again and again, he added, without naming anyone. Speaking about the Congress’ performance in the recent civic body polls in Rajasthan and Assembly elections in some States, Mr. Pilot said there is a change in the country’s atmosphere. “[Congress’] performance in the recent civic body elections reflects that the organisation and workers have worked hard and people have liked the government’s work. State Assembly results in Haryana and the alliance government taking shape in Maharashtra reflect that the atmosphere in the country is changing,” he said. “The way we have worked in Rajasthan, I am happy to say that the Congress organisation worked as hard and with as much preparedness as it did when it was in the Opposition,” the Deputy Chief Minister said. The Congress registered an impressive victory in the civic body elections held in the State earlier this month to elect 2,000 councillors. The Party got a clear majority in 20 of the 49 municipal areas that went to polls. Mr. Pliot said the BJP had always believed urban areas to be its stronghold, but the Party could only manage a majority in six areas. He said while the BJP won all 25 Lok Sabha Seats in Rajasthan six months ago, people had given the mandate to the Congress now.last_img read more

WAGGA’S WINNING WAYS DOMINATE NSW JUNIOR STATE CUP

first_imgThe town of Wagga is celebrating an historic first after being crowned Club champions for the first time in the 12 year history of the  annual New South Wales Touch Association Junior State Cup that was played at the Thomas Dalton Reserve, Wollongong over the weekend.A record 286 Teams, 300 referees, and over 5000 spectators descended on the picturesque Illawarra region to participate in the nation’s largest Touch football tournament.Teams from 49 different affiliates competed in age groups from Under 10 – Under 18 in Boys and Girls divisions in a non-stop weekend of fast and furious action featuring the brightest and best of New South Wales junior Touch football talent. For the first time in recent memory the weather Gods answered the prayers of the New South Wales touch community and turned on perfect weather for the showcase event. Wagga capped a stellar 12 months of junior development with six appearances in the ten contested Junior State Cup divisional finals. The Country affiliate claimed three divisional wins in the Vassallo Cup (12 Years Girls), The Zabielo Cup (12 Years Boys), and the Wall Cup (16 years boys) and finished runner-up in the Taylor Cup (14 Years Girls) the Toohey Cup, (16 Years Girls), and the Rose Cup (18 Years Girls).Wagga has had a record number of junior registrations in 2006 and their industrious grassroot level and representative team development structures have been rewarded with success on the Junior State Cup stage in 2007 with stunning results across the board. Traditional junior touch powerhouse Penrith also consolidated their impressive Junior State Cup record, snaffling three divisional titles in 2007. The “foot of the mountains” affiliate collected the Mc Call Cup (10 Years Boys), the Yiangou Cup, (14 Years Boys), and the Galea Cup (18 Years Boys) in a prosperous weekend for the area.Winning finals is one measure of success, but when affiliates such as Bankstown increase their team nominations from one year to the next from 4 to 10 for the annual event, and this is the norm, rather than the exception, it represents a greater victory for the game in terms of expansion across the board. New South Wales Touch Association Operations Manager Mr. Rob Summers was thrilled with all aspects of the tournament and heaped praise on Woolongong Touch Association and the competing affiliates.“It’s just a great tournament. The growth of this event reflects the strength of the sport in junior registrations and junior development in each competing affiliate. The tournament itself went off without a hitch, and the Woolongong Touch Association has to take a lot of credit for that. They work tirelessly and cohesively with the NSW staff to make the event the great success that it is.” Mr. Summers said.Members of Australia’s victorious World Cup teams proudly paraded the Federation of International Touch World Cup Trophy on the weekend and posed for photographs and signed memorabilia for budding young players keen to one day follow in the footsteps of their touch football heroes. For now though, the future superstars of our game will take their 2007 Junior State Cup XII experience (and maybe a touch of sunburn) with them and file it away until next year when affiliates, players, coaches, referees, tournament staff, and spectators do it all again at Australia’s biggest and most successful Touch tournament. The thirteenth New South Wales Junior State Cup will be hosted by the Wollongong Touch Association on the 16-17 February 2008.2007 New South Wales Junior State Cup Results:McCall Cup-10 Years Boys Penrith def Parramatta Tirado Cup-10 Years Girls Newcastle City def Manly Zabielo Cup-12 Years Boys Wagga def Peakhurst 12 Years Boys (Plate) Eastern Suburbs def Peninsula Vassallo Cup-12 Years Girls Wagga def Newcastle City 12 Years Girls (Plate) Port Macquarie def Parramatta Yiangou Cup-14 Years Boys Penrith def Wollongong 14 Years Boys (Plate) Bowral def Balmain Taylor Cup-14 Years Girls Parkes def Wagga 14 Years Girls (Plate) Milton Ulladulla def Wollongong Wall Cup –16 Years Boys Wagga def Manly Warringah 16 Years Boys (Plate) Wollongong def Peninsula Toohey Cup-16 Years Girls Wollongong def Wagga 16 Years Girls (Plate) Taree def Newcastle City Galea Cup-18 Years Boys Penrith def Western Suburbs 18 Years Boys (Plate) Parramatta def Dubbo Rose Cup-18 Years Girls Central Coast def Wagga 18 Years Girls (Plate) Griffith def Cronulla Sutherland For all information about the event including results and fixtures, please view the link at 2007 NSW Junior State Cup Websitelast_img read more

National Youth Squad camp a success

first_imgAustralia’s best young talent united in Sydney over the weekend to train together for the first time as the Australian National Youth Squads. Australia’s 18’s and 20’s Boys and Girls squads trained tirelessly over the weekend, impressing in their first foray as National Youth Squad members for the 2015 Youth Trans Tasman Series campaign, which will be held in January next year. It wasn’t all smooth sailing – Friday’s Sydney Airport Terminal Two closure threw a spanner in the works, with some player’s flights pushed back until late Friday night and early Saturday morning, before Saturday afternoon’s wild weather changed plans for teams – but the teams were still incredibly eager to make the most of their time together. Touch Football Australia’s High Performance Manager, Wayne Grant, said the weekend was a big success and looks forward to the rest of the Youth Trans Tasman Series campaign. “It was a great camp held in some trying conditions but the way the players and coaches approached the weekend has me delighted the Youth Trans Tasman preparation has started off on the right track,” Grant said. “We have some tremendously talented youth in our game with some amazing skill levels that continue to improve year after year.”To view photos from the weekend, be sure to visit the TFA social media pages:Facebook – www.facebook.com/touchfootballaustraliaTwitter – www.twitter.com/touchfootyausInstagram – www.instagram.com/touchfootballaustralia Related LinksAussie camp a successlast_img read more

first_imgTagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Newcastle boss Benitez: We’ll do what we can to keep Rondonby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveNewcastle United boss Rafa Benitez will do what he can to have Salomon Rondon become a permanent signing.On-loan West Brom striker Rondon has netted four goals in six games including a winner here that shot Newcastle to six points clear of the bottom three, with Fulham to play next week.”I am happy with him, but still he can improve,” he said.”I don’t want to give too much credit to him, and I mean by that that I don’t want to take too much credit from the others.”He is doing a great job for the team, but we have to support him a little bit more.”If he has more support, if he has more crosses and passes into him, then he will score more goals because he can do it.”Anyone can do it if you give them more assists, but I think with Salomon, if the team puts the ball in the right position then he will also be on the end of the crosses, or at the end of the passes.”Asked if Newcastle could net him permanently from West Brom, Benitez said: “It will be fine. Hopefully he can start scoring a lot of goals, and then you can ask me this in a few weeks and hopefully it can be positive then, too.”He has not surprised me. He knows he can improve – so he will work hard. His strength maybe is to hold the ball.” last_img read more
